American entrepreneur Sam O’Connor travels to a remote region of China to meet his cocksure business partner, Kenny. Kenny plans to make a financial killing in an under-the-radar deal involving a factory. There’s local anger about closing the factory, and Kenny has to bribe the solitary security guard to let them in to the impressive but deserted factory. As the Americans explore, they are stunned when two badly battered dead bodies fall down from the rafters.

Before Sam and Kenny can escape, a group of young Chinese men confront them. They are edgy, carrying guns and in disagreement about what to do, shouting at Sam and Kenny in Chinese - Sam can’t understand a word. The youths have killed the two men lying on the factory floor. There’s a tense stand-off as Kenny frantically bribes their way out. Kenny and Sam desperately speed away into the remote landscape. A road that leads into the wilderness. But soon, they spot an ominous black car following them at a distance. They speed up. So does the following car. Sam is terrified, but Kenny, savvy to the rules of the “Wild East”, says he knows how to deal with this. He shrugs off the loss of a few thousand Yen to pay off these “local thugs”, and pulls over by the side of the road. But Kenny has got it wrong. The Chinese men are terrified and sure that Sam and Kenny will go to the police. Unwilling to be bought off, the murderers give chase. Lost in a remote region of a foreign land, unable to communicate, Sam and Kenny are just average guys, not superheroes: two Americans, powerless and out of their element, fighting to survive in a country that now seems so much more than just an economic threat.
