’50 Years Legal’ Documentary Complete
In 1967, homosexuality ceased to be illegal in the UK, and this year July 5thmarks the Golden Anniversary of this triumph.
After a century littered with scandals that saw eminent members of society imprisoned, from Oscar Wilde in 1895 to Lord Montagu of Beaulieu in 1954, it was decided in July 1967 that being gay would no longer be a criminal offence.
During the fifty years that have followed, personalities in all walks of life have revealed themselves as gay ? in show business, sport, politics and big business. In doing so, they have allowed the general public to understand and enjoy many aspects of gay culture that were previously kept hidden.
Through interviews with gay celebrities in every walk of life; such as singer Will Young, actors Stephen Fry and Matt Lucas and MP Angela Eagle, as well as contributions from Sir Elton John and Sir Ian McKellen and other archive material, this feature length documentary will explore the changes that have taken place since the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the influence that gay culture has had on society in general.
